Commercial cleaning services are usually thorough, professional, and care about customer satisfaction. Sometimes cleaning services start out great and eventually become less thorough. This can be frustrating for you as a business owner – especially if you or your employees have to pick up the slack to make sure the job is complete to keep your business looking great.
If your janitorial cleaning service isn’t working out, here are some steps to take to improve communication and ensure you are receiving the customer service and level of clean you deserve!
- Identify problems or problem areas.
Make a list of the issues you are having with your cleaning service provider and any areas that aren’t getting enough attention. Review this list with your cleaning crew as well as your account manager to make sure they are aware of your concerns. Ask for written steps outlining how they will address your concerns.

If your provider is not responsive to your request to improve cleaning, or doesn’t address any concerns you may have, it may be time to find a new provider. You should review your contract terms, looking for any penalties for early termination, cancellation fees, and when and if you have to provide written notice of cancellation.
- Source a new provider.
It is recommended that you source a new provider before terminating your old one, so you don’t have a lapse in service. Prepare an outline of your cleaning needs, concerns, and any special requirements to review with potential service providers. Don’t forget to include special projects or seasonal needs, too.
- Check references.
Ask for and call references for each provider you interview. Be sure to ask about customer satisfaction and cleaning thoroughness.
- Review paperwork.
Before making a selection, review your new service contract in detail, making note of fees, notice requirements, and contact information.
